You Never Know

Thunk!
Rocky looked up at the sound of metal hitting his floor, thoroughly distracted from the pretty young man in his bed. “What was that?”
“Does it matter?” Adam murmured, drawing Rocky down for a kiss.
After a moment, Rocky pulled back. “Yeah, actually. What was that?” Curious, he reached for the black jeans on the side of the bed. He hadn’t noticed anything in Adam’s pockets...
When he pulled out a charred silver morpher, though, he understood.
Sort of.
“Why do you carry this? It’s broken.”
“You don’t know that; maybe it can be fixed,” Adam retorted. “I might need it one day.”
Rocky gaped. “No! You can’t need it because it doesn’t work. Why am I explaining this to you? You usually have to stop me from doing dumb stuff!”
“It’s not dumb to keep my morpher on me!”
“You have Zeonizers... they work; this doesn’t! You shouldn’t keep it on you!”
“Oh, like you don’t?”
“No!” Rocky strode to his underwear drawer. After a bit of digging, he produced his own blackened coin. “If you hold onto it, you’re going to be tempted to use it.” Rocky settled himself down, eyes locked on to Adam’s. His boyfriend had never seen the taller man with such a serious look on his face.
After a moment, Rocky sighed. “Adam, promise me you won’t use this.”
“Unless I have to,” Adam agreed.
“No, ever!”
“I can’t do that!”
“You have to! I’m not going to date you if I can’t trust you not to throw your life on the line like this!”
Adam flinched, heart and pride stung. After a moment, he stood and snatched his pants from the ground. “Fine. You don’t have to.”
“Adam-”
“I’m out of here. Find somebody you can trust,” he muttered.
Rocky didn’t follow.
