Reflections on a Reflection

The two stared at each other, just feet apart. Blue eyes raked over a body nearly as familiar as her own; brown eyes flickered with amusement before settling into a façade of detachment.
Kikyou admired the girl’s open-hearted nature, her ability to accept people at face value until proven wrong… and even then, to persevere.
Kikyou was put off by her reincarnation’s skimpy clothes; jealous of the girl’s freedom to be who and what she wanted, her access to knowledge beyond the revived priestess’ wildest imagination.
And the fact that InuYasha seemed to rarely leave her side.
Kagome admired the woman’s poise, her ability to go on with only creepy soul-collectors at her side, forging on through the knowledge that she lived only due to lives cut short.
Kagome was put off by her preincarnation’s rough demeanor; jealous of the woman’s poise, eternally straight hair, height and skill with a bow.
And the fact that InuYasha seemed to want to be by her side.
It was amusing – and frustrating, in turn – to both how others confused them. Like two halves to a whole, when they saw each other more as two sides of a coin. The same soul taking wildly different turns.
They were themselves, and they knew that better than anybody.
But when they were confused by others… each priestess wondered: could they take shelter in the other’s life?
